I have a bunch of random sized tanks on strangely built stands of varying designs that are reflect my building ability at the time of building said stand. This summer's project will be to take down all my tanks temporarily, break down the stands, reuse the wood and rebuild them to not only look better and have a standardized design throughout the fishroom, but hold the same sized tanks so I can condense the fishroom and have more space for other things.
The current setup:
- weird 10 gallon rack I got the dimensions of wrong that awkwardly holds four 10 gallons
- weird 29 gallon stand that was supposed to hold a 5 gallon on the bottom shelf for some reason but ended up not being able to hold the 5 gallon anyway because I again got the dimensions wrong
- weird 20 long rack that holds two tanks and was supposed to fit a third but I got the dimensions wrong and would not be able to access the middle tank if there was another one on top
- 5 gallon rack than holds two 5s, is functional and I may keep it but it does have an old design
- rack that holds a 29 and a 20 long, sort of functional but is angled a bit and has an old design
- rack that is supposed to hold 2 20 talls, dimensions are slightly off but it works and is the design I want for the rest of the fishroom
- rack that holds 3 10 gallons, is functional and has design that I want for the fishroom
The plan is:
- take down the stands/racks with 29s and 20 longs, build one that can hold three 20 longs and one that holds both the 29s
- take down 3 of the 10s completely
- keep the 10 gallon rack how it is and have one space available in the event that I need to set up a 10 in an emergency
- possibly fix the dimensions on the 20 tall rack
- if possible, take the 5 gallon rack down and rebuild with leftover wood to match design of the rest of the fishroom
I will subsequently be able to move the racks closer together and free up a good 15-20 feet of space on that wall, as the tanks are lined up against it broadside. To save even more space I could turn them outward to have them all peninsula style, but I'm not sure if this would look good with the varying lengths and heights/wires running around everywhere next to them. I will also be able to move all my electronics to two outlets as opposed to three, subsequently making automating lights/adding more and better filtration easier.
The old design I used:
New design I use and intend to shift everything to:
Admittedly they both cost roughly the same wood wise, but the latter looks better imo and holds more weight.
No pictures for now, but definitely coming soon.
