ok so it's on a small scale but every little helps
ok so i went to Dobbies last weekend and was looking at all of the fish while parents were looking at flowers and stuff... lol
as i was looking at the fish i saw what appeared to be a large oscar/cichlid sorry i don't have a clue but he was huge about 7-8inches and he was stuffed in a tank that was about 10inches... you know the small multi-stack ones... and he was just staying at the bottom- not that he had much room to maneuver- and he was just lying there with NO AIR supply!!! the tank to the right of him had the air supply but they were well separated- i think will LITTLE bars at the bottom for circulation...
now he looked sooo depressed i actually felt really sorry for him!
They have like three different species of puffer fish (and about 3 of each) in another one of those box tanks, which i believe is horrific as they will probably kill each other? also even after i complained last time they still have bettas in with neons and other little FIN NIPPERS! so i am going to take some pics this weekend hopeful... i will post them here to see what you guys think and then will take that feedback and write a strong email/letter to the complaints at dobbies... my sister complained about there being like six guinea pigs in 2foot cage with no hay which apparently they need...
So if anyone would like to keep an eye out this weekend i will post some pics and you guys can tell me what you think. i will try to hold a measuring tape up in the photos but may have to do it all quickly when the guys aren't looking lol. also after the pics if anyone else would like to complain to dobies i will post the link and what i said roughly so you can back it up... now i know that most pet shops have their fish in non-ideal conditions- i was fogged off last time with the story 'we don't keep them long sooo...' so ok i can keep you in a box till someone wants to marry you? lol if that makes sense...? and i think the 1gallon of water per inch of fish is like ideal or good conditions or is that like the minimum they need? i just want to get all my facts straight to get a good strong argument across first time.

Well that's about it for just now- will post the pics as soon as i get them.

P.S. if anyone thinks that I'm going over the top please say and i'll remove this post and stop making a fool of myself.

Thanks for looking

lol a dobbies opened up near me, and i tried for a job there, as have a friend working there (though not in the aquatics even though he keeps marines). when the place first opened (the whole center) he said it was the most shodly run place hes ever worked. the aquatics looked like it was going to be good, and was for the first few months. then they started getting more and more stock in (as the tanks developed) and they put some brackish fin nipping puffers in with plecos ( that were worse for wear because of it). i dont think you'll do much, because it seemed like none of the staff new what they were doing (except one bloke, who new his saltwater pretty well) otherwise they were just garden center staff. havent been there since, maybe should pop round and see how good it is now

Dobbies sounds like wal-mart. Is it a store that tries to sell every product known to man? Like food, appliances, electronics, fish, pets, household items, clothes, tires, building supplies. Those places are bad for animals in general, and they are usually really dirty.

If a store doesn't seem reputable and responsible, don't buy from there.

yea i don't buy from there any more and my paretns go to a different garden centre- forget the name something like philips something... anyway i guess i was just enraged by what i saw lol- they always seem to have one guy who knows waht he's doing and the rest are a bunch of baboons (no offence to the staff it's just they don't get trained in how to look after the fish) lol but i should have mentioned that big fish thats in the small tank has been there for like a year now- maybe longer...
