Is there any way to join 2 pieces of acrylic to make a long window, i plan to build a tank with about a 15 foot window, i figure i could just have 2 windows but it would just be so much cooler if one window could stretch the whole tank... i will put up a pic of my idea
Its still in the planning stages, will be a little longer than 16 feet if i can join up the 2 windows, otherwise i'm going to build it in an L shape with 2 4' X 8' windows... I figure about 1000 litres/ 260 gallons...
It certainly CAN be done; here is a bad shot of a 20 foot long all acrylic tank in the library by my house...
There are 2 vertical seams on each side, the center is 8 feet & then 2 6 foot pieces one on each side of that. The 2 foot section cut from the original 2 8 foot sections make the ends (its only 2 feet front to back) the floor is also 3 pieces, the floor seams are off-set from the sides for strength. (could have been 22 feet long) made of 7 sheets of 2.5 inch thick acrylic.
It was built in 3 segments, off site then the final assembly was done on-site; bonding the edges together.
The vertical lines you see under the 3rd door from the right are one set of seams; the other is harder to see, they are where the glare is.
I cant wait to start, just need to convince my girl, just bought her a nano tank so that she can have some clown fish... She keeps asking me if there is anything we can put in the water to turn them pink its crazy, maybe i'll get a pink light or something
