I am new to saltwater and i am thinking about setting up my 29 gallon tank into some type of reef i have thought about. Some live rock and corals. I also planned on gtting some mandarin fish. Are octopuses saf with corals and fish?

biggest thing in saltwater is to start slow. you have big plans but i suggest not jumping in that deep quite yet. best way to start is with live rock and some reef safe fish then add a little coral and see how you do later on.

Mandarin fishes eat copepods that take time to naturally grow in your tank. thats why many people suggest letting your tank mature for at least a year before getting a mandarin.

octopuses are a different story. they are predatory and will eat all your crabs and snails. they will end up killing your coral over time by touching them to much. generally when a person wants an octopus they make it a species tank and octopuses are aggressive so you'll end up keeping only one.

Thanks guys. So if i get an octopus i would have to keep it by itself than right? I wanted the joubini because of its size 5 inches.

octopus are safe with coral, not with fish or any mobile inverts, and their lifespan is only between year or two, so get the smallest one you can find.
