I recently moved my arowana into a 200 gallon tank, along with his tankmate an endlicheri endlicher bichir. When I introduced them to the new tank I added in two NTT datnoids. They seem pretty stable and healthy, and they both get along great with the arowana. At times, I'll see the arowana pacing the tank with the two dats following in single follow line. I got both for about $60 USD each. They are about 4 inches, the arowana is a little more than 12 inches, and the bichir is about 11 inches long.

The bichir, Elwood, pretty much just sits on the bottom all day, and they don't pay any attention to him at all. However, they are pretty fond of the jardini, Yojimbo, and try to almost school with him. They've only been together about a week, so we'll still have to play it by ear to see how things work out. All in all though, it seems to be going well as you can see by the pictures. In these shots the datnoids were almost seeking cover behind the arowana.

I'll update this thread every month or so with new pictures to document the condition of the fish, as well as their growth. I'm really interested in watching these fish grow, as I feel it's always more fun when you had a monster from a small size, rather then getting a fish that's already huge.

Currently I've been just feeding them small fish, as it's all I can seem to get them to eat. It's not that bad, as my bichir is a pain and will not eat anything but live food, so I don't really have to change my feeding routines much, just a little more live food each week. Hopefully they start picking up on some of the freeze dried shrimp or market shrimp chunks I feed the arowana, but we'll have to see.

So, here's to the first post of many on these two knuckle heads. I'll keep the thread updated with anything important that happens over the next few months. Thanks for reading!

Today I added two air lines to the left end of the tank, just with defusers on the end. Hopefully adding decent oxygen to the tank. The filtration I use is the FX5 by Fluval, it has 3 basket tiers that each contain different bagged components: top is amonia, middle is carbon, and bottom is a bio chamber. I really like the flow on this canister and it is really quiet, but I don't like that there's no option to add airflow to it out of the box. I would've liked to see a one-way air intake tube for the output of the filter and use the pump's energy to push O2, but it's not a big deal I just have to use one more wall socket. =p

I also took the slate on the right side out, and put it back into my 60 gallon cichlid tank. I added a peice of laced rock and a couple smaller peices of dry basin rock to the 200 gallon and I'll get updated pictures in the near future.

The datnoids are still doing well, although they are still really shy and aren't much to look at currently. Usually they just sit in the same spot all day, maybe they'll swim around a bit, but eventually they'll find their way back to a corner or the rocks and just sit for a while more.

nice set up and fish, i have a few recommendations for you.

i would add a couple of hiding spots for the tigers and they will become more outgoing and stop sitting around as much.
also i would cut your intake pipe down a bit more to stop the sand getting into the filter.
you also dont need carbon in the filter so i would replace it with more bio media.
just suggestions

Thanks for the feedback. I was already looking at my intake and thinking I wanted to cut it in half, so you just became my motivation essentially, haha.
I'll take your advice on the carbon when I change out the media also, and try more bio media.

Also, what is everyone's thoughts on driftwood? From my experience, it seems to discolor the water a bit and I don't really like that much. Although, I can't really think of anything else natural to put into the tank, as I don't want to use PVC. I'm thinking about adding some artificial plants along the side walls of the tank to like enclose the tank a bit also. I have just black cloth on the back side of the tank, although I have enough slack in the fabric to go the length of one side also probably.

centerpiece driftwood looks nice sometimes.. just takes away a lotta swimming space. its up to u really... but man u can fit so much more in there! nice tank

ill second the notion for hiding spots. it looks like from you pics they are just chilling in that corner. hiding spots with give them place to place to go. if you're worried about driftwood discoloring your water, soak/boil it before placing it in your water. i ordered from this place, http://search.stores.ebay.com/RockArtSource_malaysian-driftwood_W0QQsaselZ107385344QQsofpZ0, and boiled it for a while before putting it in the water and no tannins leak into the tank.
