I come bearing bad news. My convict cichlid jumped out of his tank today while I was at work. But he was in the front of the tank so he must have popped the lid loose and landed outside. How do you guys keep that from happening? Just weigh them down?

I used to put rocks on the lid

Simple yet effective. Thanks for the advice. I figured something like that I was just wondering if anyone had any fancy way of keeping the lid secure. Although I suppose in some cases simple is best

sorry for your loss, never had a con jump. ..never use lids on any of my tanks so i guess its just a mater of time.

I've had cons A hrp a gt and jd jump out. Some weren't so lucky and decided to do it while I wasn't home. Others lucked out and got saved. I started using rocks cause of my old 6" jd would hit it with his head and open the hood enough for it to slam shut. It would scare my son when he was sleeping so I toke some slate stones and laid them on the glass.
There are clips that are for terrariums that might work I used have them on my ball pythons tank so he won't escape.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss :( I had a turtle lift the lid and climb out once so I put a couple of books on the lid. Not very nice to look at but it did the trick. Good luck
