Alright. I have kept many piranha in the past, and for some reason I am just still drawn to them. I am getting the basement finished and at that point I will have waater available down there and the ability to have nice setups.

Questions:

1. Do most people find that mixed pygo shoals go bad? as in the eventually eat eachtother, and loss the effect of having a tank filled with a nice shoal of piranha

2. What kind of growth rates have people been getting with small serras?

I am on the fence about what to set up. I am kinda thinking eventually one big rhom with a beautiful natural looking simple setup would be great.

whoops shouldnt be in the media lounge, sorry

all shoal has the potential to go bad not just mix shoal. so it depends, but ternetzi is from cooler water and piraya too (according to the river temp of rio san francisco og opefe) when compare to cariba and most reds ao that could have an effect on aggression when you have them all at a typical temp of 78-82F.
I have a baby serra, got it at ~1" its growing about 0.5" per month. also had a 6.5" rhom grew to 7.2" in 4 months and a 6" manueli grow to 7.5" in 5 months.
the 8" rhom I have now grow from ~4.5" to current size in 3 years by previous owner.

id go with a cariba/rbp shoal, or just pure cariba. i have my 4 reds, and they are more fun than my mac, but hes still a boss lol

you are the man! that small serra that you have, how big is it now?

1. like Jack said any type of shoal can go wrong, however space and number of fish can play a role too

2. Rhoms grow extremely slow once they hit a certain size, not sure what size that is though.
3. welcome back :headbang2, I would do two tanks one with a rhom and the other with a species shoal.

i haven't measured it, 2.5-3" maybe, I got it in Feb.

deffinately rbp + cariba set up, with even shoal and size, or maybe another serra that can shoal with other serras

shark aquarium is getting small terns, hmm . . . .

there you go :) get some. I'm deciding rather a shoal or a big rhom for my 180g
