I made a completely clear lid for my tank out of an acrylic sheet... and all was well until i noticed a sound one night while playing video games... i thought nothing of it until i heard it a few more times... i turned around right as my fish was jumping out of the water... i think he sees the water droplets on the lid from condensation and tries to eat it... is there any tricks or tips to keep him from jumping? I was thinking of spray painting a pattern on to the sheet this week end and hope he thinks that it is more solid... will this work?

Just a side note. You need to think about moving the common pleco. Two will most likely fight one another as they get older/larger. :nilly:

they are still about an inch each... im hoping to get another tank from my gf for my birthday :D ... i want to have an albino osacr on the other side of the room  but back to the problem at hand

Ok, Firstest...Are you sure the fish (it is the oscar right?) jumping at the top?

...................How's the water spec's. Sometimes if water is to far off the fish try to get out, they don't realize that is's air on the other side of the glass.

If your going to paint it, I suggest spray it blotchy - kinda like tagging a wall, otherwise it will be reflective from bottomside.

Keep Us posted, and how about some pics..

yes im sure its the oscar... i caught him

i have one pic of him on here, he is still baby maybe 3-4 inches... im at work now so no new pics... ill check the water tomorrow and ill do a 50% water change as per usual friday morning.... and ill post the results... i doubt he would be jumping if i had a real lid on there... it was a lizard cage first and had screen top on it... so my light hangs from the ceiling (sp?) about 2 feet above the tank

I have my light hanging from the ceiling as well...all it takes is one little tiny moth flying around it and my Aro goes nutz...I tried some limo tint on .25" glass tops, the kind that is really dark. It does cut down on the lighting a bit but it seems to keep the Aro from spazing out...try lowering the water level a bit as well.

spray painting the topside of ur lids is a good idea i'd prolly stick 2 that
might do it myself actually

A picture of something scary resting on topside might eliminate the need to spray paint.

Good idea !:D

How about putting a Stuffed heron looking into the tank. :eek3:

(Juan might be able to find you one ;) )

Reminds me of that old cartoon about stress and the goldfish living in a blender.

Mine used to do that too his last tank had acrylic tops. When I got the bigger tank it has glass tops he banged his head on there a few times then stopped.I think the acrylic is light and flexible enough that it doesnt hurt so he keeps doing it,just accept he is a headbanger:cool-1:
