In the tank
I cannot cover the tank entirely, so I keep the water level 1 ft from the top to prevent my gars from jumping out. Do you think they can ever jump that height? They are about 14" now.

yes, pretty sure they can jump that high.

When really spooked he can make it.
How come you can't cover the whole tank?
Can't we find a solution there?
I had to use 12 smaller glassplates to cover my 180GL but managed.
Though my gar hardly splashes or jumps...

easy jump for those fish. i rocomend you to get a cover for that tank as soon as you can or you are going to find that fish on the floor, dead, stinky, and dead

I had a problem with my gar jumping out of the space at the back of the tank where there's a gap for the filter tubes and such. I used screen (the plastic kind, for windows) that I bought in a roll. I bought suction cups with hooks on them from ACE Hardware and just wrapped the open area like a present, hooking the screen into the suction cup hooks. It ends up looking pretty good, if you do it neatly, and it keeps everyone from jumping out while preserving air flow. It's also a cheap fix, and you could easily cover the tank for about ten bucks.

a roll of plastic mesh and couples of suction cups. Brillant idea! I will try that.
