I appologize in advance for the long post....

So it all started in 2006. I went to the California State Fair with a girl I was dating. I tried to impress her with my ability to throw ping pongs into small containers. Thinking that my years of Beer Pong would work to my advantage, I plunged $20+ dollars into the hopes of winning a small goldfish for my lovely lady. After failing miserably, I found out that I could just buy one out of the fish bowl for $5 and not spend another $100 throwing another damn ball. So I did...

Lola out grew tank after tank after tank. Killed tankmates by not allowing them to eat. Sucked snails from their shells and utterly causing havok wherever her stupid gold fins went.

I had her in a 8 gallon tank for way too long and it was getting green. Green as in murky, murky as in cloudy, cloudy as in disgusting. I even bought a cat fish hoping that would "clean" things up since snails stood little chance.

I was nieve and didn't know that tap water was bad for tanks. I did water changes to no avail and basically created red tide in my tank.

After crys from friends to save the poor thing. I went to Walmart and bought a 20G tank and stand. I moved the cat fish and Lola in to their new clean and highly chlorinated home. I think the cat fish was a chinese striped catfish, although it looked alot like a RTC now that I've actually done some research on fish keeping. When I dumped out the old tank it was blood red in color.

After about a week both fish started turning red and acting funny. Then they got furry. Then they got dead.

Two weeks after buying a new tank and now there are no fish. I go to the local fish store Capital Aquarium in Sacramento, which sadly just went out of business, to buy a fish. I tell the dude there that I want a large, aggressive and intellegent fish. I wanted a red devil but they were too expensive. He then shows me a Peacock bass.

Peacock bass! WTH is that? Is it a bass bass? Like a large mouth or something?

Yeah he says.

Where do they come from?

The rivers in Northern California he says.

I'm thinking that this could be cool and buy the little 2 inch guy along with a sailfin plecto. I go home and google this new fish... HOLY MOTHER FOOKING SHEET! That fish could swallow my head!

So began my research into fish keeping, searching for a sizable tank and love for this "hobby", which is now consuming my life.

My question now that I have bought and cycled this 135G tank is what to put in it. I want to keep the peacock, plecto and the new datnoid. I was thinking one more just to round it out. What do you guys think?

I was thinking about a bichir. Would this work in the long run or am I already pushing the capacity of the tank? If not a bichir what else might work out ie. not get eaten and look interesting in the tank.

I really wish I could go with an arowana, knife fish or Gar but from what I have read they would be too big for the tank. I also like the wolf fish but it sounds like they are too aggressive and would probably eat the datnoid then nibble on the others.

Thanks for listening. Any advice or recommendations are appreciated.

Glad you are doing some research. But a peacock would probably get too big for the 125g as well.

The more you look on this site, the more you will see what fish are suitable for what size tanks. You could always get a red wolf fish. They stay smaller but share some of the same aggression with the bigger ones. A couple senegal bichir would be fine I think as well.

Thanks for the replies. I guess my next question would be how long till the 5 inch PBass gets too big? If it's a few years I might just upgrade the tank. If it's gonna be a year then I may try and sell the PBass and get one more suited for this size tank.

Unfortunately I bought the PBass before knowing how big they actually got and this was the biggest tank I could find within my budget. In a few years I could probably afford a larger tank. 300G would be nice, perhpas someday...
