My dad used to use feeders when I was super young to train his they would jump out of the water and take them from his fingers....good luck

I'm not sure what sort of tank/hood you have or how large your Oscar is...but having a "pretty heavy hood" really doesn't matter...since you will probably have to remove the hood to allow the Oscar enough room to jump. And if the hood is removed...and the Oscar jumps...he may jump out of the tank & end up on the floor!:(

this is oh so true, OP i didnt ever teach my oscar to jump for food , but since i only feed 3 times a week when he sees i have food in my hand he gets so exited as soon as i open the hood on my tank he just starts jumping and splashing

I said that I have a pretty heavy hood for the reason that him learning to jump won't lead to him jumping out, I only have the hood off for feeding time, and if he were to Junmp out I could put him back.

I believe the point he was trying to make is that you can potentially kill the fish by allowing it to jump. One little mistake and he gets by you and smashes on the floor, he's done. Head injury or busted swim bladder.

I had my little oscars jump before but not high just a little splash. My big O never did it. When I would go up to the tank he would get excited and shake back and forth like a dog.

I have mine jumping, the hood has a hole that's enough only for the food to go through and not let the oscar get out. But like ^ what he said, better be careful, you don't want your O to be done by jumping and having unfortunate accident which may lead to your oscar's death.

Even if you are there when he jumps out of the tank it depends on where the Oscar lands.

When i was trying to move my ebld out of one of my tanks he jumped and landed behind the tank, it was in an alcove and very hard to get him back. Luckily i was able to get him and he is ok but he could of landed somewhere were i would have to move the tank.
