My silver arowana which is about 10 inches now is really 'jumpy' especially when i switch the lights off at night...

The next morning i usually see scratches on his head from all the jumping...

Is there anything i can do to solve this problem???

try to keep it dark around his tank after lights out. the aro can see you better when the lights are off making him jumpy. Also make sure his water is in good shape, somtimes spooky aros means bad water. Another thing you can try is adding blackwater extract. i have heard that this calms them down.

I've noticed they will calm down as they get bigger. Mine have at least.

My aros were pretty jumpy till they got to the 12" mark, after that they calmed down considerabley

My late aro hated the dark. Even at 19" he freaked if I blacked out the tank. I use a side light with a nite lite amber bulb, it's just enough. I feel bad because I was trying to teach him to not be afraid and beat himself up everrynight, so I turned off my tank lights one night recently and he jumped out and I didn't find him in time. My new baby doesn't seem to mind. I figured if it made him that much more content, then it was better than headbanging all night.

leave a small light for the aro to see thge sorroundings. my aro was like that b4, and what i did i open a small lamp besides it so it wont get really scared. dorked for me!

My silvers tend to get jumpy when there's some sort of change in their enviroment. For instance, when they were initially introduced into the tank, they jumped at everything... switching the lights on or off, walking by the tank, even when I tried taking pictures. Then it started again when I removed some fishes from the tank, they even stopped eating for a 2 - 3 week span. So I guess another question would be, did you do any changes to your aro's enviroment?

the most important question is how big is the tank?

right on, LOL:headbang2 . i dont think we should make any advices or form any theories until we know the tank size and even its placement in the house or whereever. less people traffic, calmer aro
