My lei started to get jumpy recently. He's not harrased by tank mates, but he always seems to want to get something on top of the water.

There's some visible wounds on his upper mouth, but nothing serious...

I do have an egg crate / light diffuser on top of the tank which gets pretty sharp if you hit it head on.

Any idea to calm the lei down ? My 3 black aros never showed this behaviour, but the lei started to do it recently.

Top of the tank is clean and there aren't anything that resembles food for him to get jumpy.

Any idea ?

I had this problem with my lei and nothing I did stopped it.

I found that dimming my lights helped for a while but eventually I ended up putting it outside in a pond.

All you can really do is make sure you have thick lids and weigh them down. Mine went threw the lids twice.

What size tank is it in? Is it feeling cramped?

My former Silver busted the thick heavy glass lid on my 265g.

My leichardti seems to eye stuff on the lid and pop it every now and then. It doesn't seem like he is startled, but just trying to get something(feeding response).

As Steve said, and as I have noticed, they get a little jumpy when they feel like they don't have room to move. Maybe the blacks are taking up too much real estate in the tank. How big are all the aros and how big is the tank?
