Ive had some drift wood in a tank for going on 2 years now and it doesnt seem to matter how hard I try to clean it it always gathers cruddy slime. Do people with driftwood just clean them constantly or do unnecessarily often water changes to keep them clean?

when i had drift wood in my tnak i never cleaned it.

I have driftwood in every single one of my tanks and i've never ever cleaned any of them except for before going in the tank...so if possible, i would say try and get some cleaner fish such as ottos / pleco's to help keep the wood clean???

What is actually on your driftwood? Bacterial slime or perhaps algae? Different problems call for different solutions.

Is is green or red slime? White fuzz looking? Or brown tuffs?

I've got the brown mess. Gave up fighting it. Pleco has no interest either

^ Is the brown mess diatoms??? and if so shouldn't you (in theory) be able to be scrub it off??? since i tend to scrub diatoms off any of the rocks i have in my tanks...

what does this mess look like?

its like a slime greenishbrown. Only grows on the drift wood.
