I purchased a baby juruense a few weeks back. So far he is doing well, eating, and is active. He's about 2-3" now. Eventually I plan on purchasing a tank somewhere is the 280-390 gallon range. My question is, would more than one Juruense be able to live together in a tank that size, provided all their needs were met?

:D :D all i know is that they get big.... so i would prepare for a descent sized tank although they dont get that stocky just.... long so you should be good...

nice find though how much did you pay...

That's a very nice fish.... I had one back in 1991....

I have seen shops with a couple of Juruenses in a tank... A couple in a huge tank should work. I find these fish not too aggressive and they seem to tolerate one another.

... something to think about... I generally am more succesful in keeping 3 fish of the same species than 2... I believe the aggression of the dominant fish is focus on the other fish if there are only 2 in a tank, Therefire there is a chance for him to bully the other to death. While if there are 3 or more, his aggression is divided to the other members of the tank.

Cool, thanks for the info. I had first got one that was pretty beat up, but it was the first time I had ever seen one in a shop so I chanced it and tried to nurse it back to health. It was probably about 4-5" long, but unfortunately it only lasted 2 or 3 days (I don't recall exactly). I paid $59 for that one. The store did give me that much in credit though, and sure enough, a couple weeks later they had this 2-3"er arrive in a much healthier condition. This one actually had a streamer and all (about 4"). This one only cost $32, so now my Frillie has been maxin on crickets with the left over money. I am really pleased with this second one though, and have been monitoring his water closely as I've heard the are fragily when young. I love watching him swim into the current and the doing that pose they do where they arch backwords. He sticks the pose and just rides the current to the other side of the tank.

You raise a good point though about stocking more than 2 in a tank. I agree with you, and now that I think about it will probably try to accomodate 3. Thanks again for the advice. I will try to post pics once I get my computer back up and running.
