OK first of all, I'm an idiot. I had my juruparis in a growout and it had gravel. :(

Anyway, I noticed one's lower jaw was sort of "pooched" down like he had something stuck in there, and it stayed that way. I was thinking maybe a piece of gravel, so I netted him out and took a look, and no gravel. But anyway I decided to move them all into the permanent tank (with sand). And he's still got the jaw thing going on, but he's eating now and looks a bit better (he'd gotten kind of thin) but he doesn't sand sift like the others do. His jaw does look a bit better though. Any idea what this is, and if it will heal? Was it maybe an irritation from maybe getting a piece of gravel in there?

Inside of the mouth could have been cut by a piece of gravel causing it to not want to eat. When you netted it, did you notice any discoloration in the mouth? Were there any other fish in the tank with the gravel that it could have locked jaws with?

Pictures would help a lot, if you can get some.

I can't really take a pic that will show you anything unfortunately. The only other fish in there were 2 festivums, a senegal bichir, and an african knife. Everybody pretty much ignored everybody, except the jurupari would chase each other around, but I never saw any lip locking.

No discoloration inside, it's the center of the lower jaw, right in between the bottom edges of the gill plates. It really looked like something was stuck in there, what I'm thinking is that he had a piece of gravel in there and managed to spit it, but for whatever reason the jaw didn't reset.
