Hi all
Sorry to bother you all with yet more questions!!

1) im having a prefilter section before the water goes into the wet/dry section, this would be roughly the size of an ice cream tub with my media in, after passing through the media, it would then drip into the bio-media. Would it increase the filters effectiveness if there was a spray bar or something similar after the prefilter section that would help spread the water over the area of the bio-media, as opposed to it being concentrated on a smaller area of media. (if this does not makes sense, i could draw up a quick diagram)

2) if an airstone was placed near to the retrurn pump in the sump, would the pump draw up bubbles? if so, would bubbles in the pump damage, make noise or reduce the filters effectiveness?

thanks for any help in advance
sorry for all the questions!!
Matt

1) you want a driptray arrangement to spread the water over as much of the bio as possible.
2) it will probably do everything bad like you said.

Yet more questions, sorry guys!

would a tank divider be ok as a drip plate or would the holes have to be smaller?

also (and this is a kinda big question) how do these DIY overflows work. i was going to but one but found out you could build your own. ive seen designs but dont actually understand how they work? if anyone could explain i would be really grateful. id love to build one but would like to understand what im building before i build it lol!

Thanks
Matt

probably still bother the pump, cant you put it in a different compartment, how big is the sump?

There's several stickies about the DIY PVC overflow in the DIY section. You should read the whole dang thing & understand it before you make a decision to build one. The basic concept is to build the bottom part of a toilet that runs constantly... Drip plates can be made out of any plastic sheet. I bought some big Sterilite/Rubbermaid bin lids that I'm gonna cut up & drill holes in. That way I can make my drip plates whatever size I need.

Thanks for all the help guys, have now read and fully understand how it works and any more questions have been posted in the DIY section :)

cheers people :)
