I went down to the river and caught 5 crayfish, no luck for some other fish for my 120g, the crayfish are in the 20g, except for one he got eated by my smally (: it was a good show should have recorded it lol i have 2 male and 2 female, both females have eggsacks on them and i want to try and hatch them so here are my questions

1) proper temperature for spawning?

i also have feeder fish for my Smally in there because i buy 20-30 at a time for 2-3 weeks and he eats about half of them in 3-4 days and doesnt get hungry then instinct kicks in and he chomps on them and spits then out and then they die

2) would the feeder fish eat the spawned crayfish?

3) do i need to keep the male crayfish in there during the spawning period or how do i know if the cray-eggs are already fertilized by the male crays?

i want to keep the females and watch them grow and feed the males once their job is done to my smally

ANY EXTRA INFO ON CRAYFISH , NOT CRAWFISH/CRAWDADS, WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED I.E. WHAT THEY EAT ETC.....

Thanks.

Feeder fish will eat the young crays. If you see eggs on the female's abdomen, she has already mated. At this point the male is just an additional stress/possible predator, so take him out. It's best to separate the female from the young as well once they've hatched. The young will feed on softened algae wafers and bits of vegetable matter. Adults will eat just about anything; most fish foods will be taken, as well as vegetable matter, earthworms, slow or sleeping fish, etc.

Crayfish, crawfish, and crawdads are all the same thing.

crawfish/craw-dads are native to the states, ex: southern swampy areas, not like here in ontario, and also larger then crayfish so i thought theyd have different specifications on them but oh well =P, also about the temperature?

There are crays native to much of the world, so there are probably some native to your area. There are introduced rusty crays in your area, but they're from around here, not the south. There's no difference between crayfish/crawfish/crawdads etc. Those are all regional common names, not technical names.

ahh i see

also how long does it take for the eggs to hatch off the abdomen?

again proper temperature? and what do the adult craws eat?

Room temp is fine. The eggs will take 4-8 weeks to hatch depending on species, usually closer to the low end of that range. As I said, adult crays will eat practically anything. Sinking fish pellets, including a mix of animal-based and vegetable- or algae-based pellets, are a good basic diet.

i've got left over algae wafers will those work? and i take the dead feeder fish my bass chomps n spits out and stick them in the gravel so the tails are sticking out and the crays seem to munch of those from time to time i also have fish flakes.

sweet, once the eggs hatch ill try and get some pictures up (:
