so my husband is usually the one who gets on here and tinks around, but i have a question for all of you. i really really would like to own a pair of clown loaches and he really really would like to own a pair of clown knifes. so our 68 gallon tank is in the making so we are planning what we are going to put in with it. currently we have our bichirs in with a pictus cat, but i would like to put those three in the bigger tank with the loaches, and well he says that they could not hold their own in a tank with the bichir that we would have to go with the knifes. i just dont believe that this is true. our bichirs have very good temperment and are not usually agressive at all, would they really attack the loaches or ignore them as they do the cat? or do you have any other advise on what to introduce to our bichirs? your advice is greatly appreciated. thank you

Clown Loaches can pretty much hold their own with most fish their own size. They can defend themselves quite well.. However, they can get quite large, over time. They also do better in groups of 5 or more. In my experience.

68 gal is too small for one clown knife let alone a pair of them. as for the clown loaches, if they're big enough not to fit in the bichir's mouth then they would be fine. also clown loaches although grow slow will eventually outgrow a 68 gal also and ideally they should be in large shoals of 5 or more.

well thank you that settles it clown loaches it is

i think thats a nice choice but do get a horde that way it will look great and they will also be happy as they are a shoaling fish and like to be in groups
and as others already said they get huuuuuuuuuuuge
but for better info you gotta wait for ewurm

yes get a bigger tank maybe 180 or larger I have seen loaches in same tank as bichirs there was not one problem.

ok the husband here. lol my only thought about the loaches is that any thing that can fit in the bichir mouth is a meal i dont wana get up in the morning and see half a loache hanging out the bichirs mouth

what kind of bichirs do you have? Loaches and upper jaws will work well, but if you keep lower jaws, beware.

I had some rather large clowns (appx 5") and a 9" lap tried to eat them, and I had to save one from the laps jaws.

I have 5 clown loaches in with four upper jaw bichirs and they do just fine. one bichir is 11 inches and the biggest clown loach is 2 inches. I agree with everyone that says five loach minimum. I saw way more activity in my clowns when I added my fifth.
