So I was thinkin instead of making a 48x48x24 indoor tank, why not throw them out for summer? Something like a 8x3x3 maybe. Maybe even 10x3x3. So if I did build this, it would be 2 feet under and 1 foot above ground to keep all the crap out and varmints. I live in IL so it wont be 100 degree summers, we usually peak 95 for a few days. It wont be in sunlight until noonish, and will come out of it around 4-430pm. The main question is, is 2 feet under ground good enough to keep it under 80, or would 3 feet under 1 foot over be a better situation?

If you go deeper, the pond will be cooler in those depths. that way when we do get those August Dog Days, the cats will have an area to hang out. the goldfish will be much more comfortable in cooler temps. as well.
