Just wondering why some hybrids in the hobby are acceptable while others are frowned upon, for example flower horns, red texas etc are acceptable, why or is it just personal preference.(just wondering)

personally, i just dont like hybrids.

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally, I don't have a problem with hybrids like red texas and flowerhorns or any hybrid that still exhibits "normal" physical characteristics. The things I don't like are stuff like blood parrots, short bodied or tailless or otherwise misshapen fish where their ability to function is impaired by the physical characteristics that have been selected for by breeding.

:iagree:
I'm fine with flowerhorn etc. but not with fish that are abnormal.

Really, there's no "right or wrong" it's really personal opinon.

Personal preference.

I'm fine with hybrids bought by a responsible breeder, as long as they're not misshapen and he knows when to cull.

im fine with any hybrids as long as they are labeled properly. and you dont think your getting a pure strain when you not.

some people are just tightwads.

Definitly Personal preference. l like blood parrots because they are short and fat like my dog.

As a life long hobbiest over 40 yrs.
I have learned that many standards in the hobby began as "hybrids" ,I
wont list them all, do the research you will amaze yourself. And if you know anything about Darwinist theory you will understand that "cross breeding" is a necessity in the wild for evolution ,species diversity and species success.

Many pureists in the hobby will discredit "hybrids" . Its funny how this transalates to human nature in general the analogy would be "fish Racists"lol

Having said that I personally am a "fish Racist " as well..lol becuase I do not feel that humans should on a Mass production level, such as Asian Flowerhorns, attempt to alter or modify natures natural progression.

The problem with this logic, yes I fully admit it , is that many of the specimin that I have mainatained ,studied and seeked over the years are
the result of such manipulation by mans hand.

I give you various Carassius, betta splenden, many of the 3500 + species of cichlids and even Marine species.

Now along with this distain,I carry the knowledge that many species in the hobby may unfortunately make the Invasive species list of many countries.
Flowerhorns are Uber Agro introduced to the florida everglades or the limited marshlands of the phillipines this "frankenstein" becomes
the equivilent of a pandemic to the native species, ecosystems and biotopes. the Nile Perch is an example of what our hand has done to the ecosytem the damage to the rift valley lakes and thier diverse species will never be rectified, lake victoria has seen the extinction of 200+ strain of cichlids.

Wth all this in the back of our minds it is no wonder why Some knowledgeable Aquaholics "hate" hybrids, until we one some...lol

Me neither and I think that the flowerhorns are over rated as well as overpriced.
