Is it OK to keep a male and female Flowerhorn together? Or do they generally fight too much to keep together on a permanent basis. I'd like to get a mate for my big guy, but I'm not sure if it'd be wise or not. He's ok with other fish of different species (eccept for catfish, he hates catfish)
Do they pair up? Try to destroy each other? How about a different species of cichlid that would be an OK mate for him (they're hybrids anyways, so what would the harm of mixing a similar species be?) Just wondering your opinions.

Just trial and error like other cichlids. I have a male and female who get along fine. I have had to put a divider in a few times but most of the time they get along fine.

but if your fh has a big head, when they pair up his head will shrink. That's from my experience.
