I want to finally start keeping PBass after 10 years of being in the hobby. I have a 125 that would be used as a growout tank for them. I want to keep Monos or Orinos. Now my question is how long could a group of maybe 4-6 be kept in there. My guess is about 8 months with live feeders being fed. I will be building a 450 gallon in the next 6 months so they will have room when they grow up. After they get to about 24-26" they will be going into a 1700 gallon fiberglass pool that I already have sitting around but not enough space to set up right now. What I am going to do is cut slots for curved acrylic windows in the pool so I can see in as well.

nice plan! what size are you thinking on buying them at

Probably like 2 or 3 inches when I buy them. I will probably go with Orinos. I am making a plywood 450  I hope it doesn't leak lol. Or I may take a non used Acrylic sewage pipe that is 8 feet in diameter. My dads shop is right next to a glass, plexi glass and acrylic factory and they said they have tons of pipe that never got used and are willing to sell some for very cheap. It's 1 inch thick. So I am thinking get a 24" high piece and make a slate or fiberglass bottom. Possibly a sheet of acrylic but it might get too pricey for a cheap tank. If I do the tube the tank would be 750 gallons. I may even go 3' high instead of 2'. I would build a wrought iron stand (MIG weld it up) and wrap that with stainless steel sheet metal with a nice clear coat on it. I am leaning towards the tube but it will get really expensive fast! Plus filtration would be a 125 gallon wet/dry and 2 FX5's which would also be expensive. The plywood tank would be much cheaper and more practical. But a circle tank of PBass how cool would that be!

Orinos tend to grow slower than other species of Cichla.
