Not sure how many people do this or something similar with a turkey baster but i’ve found this method incredibly useful for removing organics from substrate...

Never thought of this before, thanks for the tip. Very ncie tank by the way.

Thank you, but this isnt my tank lol (maybe i should have said that in my opening post)... Just so happened someone told me about this method recently so i went on youtube to find an example video to better illustrate the technique here...

I must be honest and say i’ve been slacking a bit on my high tech tank... think i need to do a serious cleanup tmr...

I do that with my shrimp bowls to prevent disruption of the carpeted substrate. An alternative is to tie a chopstick. But a turkey baster is better because it can blow and stir at the same time.

Another trick is to tie a bacteria operated toothbrush to brush and suck at the same time on driftwood and rock.

I’ve used a regular toothbrush at the end of a syphon before, but never heard or seen of the turkey baster trick till recently...

Now that i know it, it really is the best way imo to clean substrate coz it targets the specific areas you are hovering over...
