Behind you
i went to my cousins house earlier and on the way i saw this fish market, in there i saw a grouper, very much alive and lively. i was surprised when they told me that it swims on freshwater. now my question is can groupers really tolerate freshwater? it was pretty cheap at around $15 converted from our peso here in the philippines. i resisted the urge to buy because i lack proper knowledge about them. this is how it exactly looks like.

Do you mean fish market as in 'fresh fish', or fish market as in aquarium store.
If they're selling fish for human consumption then the grouper will soon die in that f/w, at which point they'll cut him up and sell the filets.
If it's an aquarium store then they don't know what they're talking about.
Either way I couldn't imagine keeping a grouper as a pet. It would need a monster tank and between the feeding and the water changes one would spend a small fortune.

I'm not sure about that specific type, but I do know that panther groupers can be converted to full freshwater. They may have had him in brackish or something and just been calling it fresh.

CAN YOU POST PIX OF THIS PANTHER GROUPER?

omg...you guys should see the GROUPER in the Georgia Aquarium tank in Atlanta. The thing is a monster and acts like an oscar. he sits there staring at you as you stare back at him. they are smart fish. i don't think you can keep one of those in a home aqaurium. they're too damn big.

someone on here may do it haha. people keep arapimas which are outrageous too haha. but theyre freshwater so the maintenance level is completely different

i was just amazed when the lady said that the grouper is in freshwater. and i can see here put some water straight from the faucet. that grouper was so lively.
