I was ordering some supplies the other night on DrsFoster&Smith and something came to my attention. I will try to explain without too many run on sentences but that probably won't happen.
5 Litres of Eheim Substrate is supposed to treat 450 gallons of water. The Eheim Pro 3's recommended media set includes 8 Liters of eheim substrate and 4 liters of eheim ehfimech. Assuming the substrate pro is at least as effective as the regular substrate 8 liters should technically be able to filter 720 gallons. Yet they conservatively rate the filter(Pro 3) for tanks up to 320 gallons. To me this is basically saying you can fill it with that extra 4 liters or so of eheim bio media but it isnt' going to do anything. I hope this post makes sense to at least one person. I have a tendency to write things up very unclear. I just found this funny that they recommend you a certain amount of bio media but then rate the filter to not even come close to matching what they claim the bio can handle. I know there are other factors such as flow rate, etc..
