I saw 2 silver arowanas for sale at the lfs. They wanted $22 for them and I was tempted but they had these yellow bag thingies hangin off there bellies. Is this normal, and what the heck are they. They were only about 1 1/2" if that helps.

Thanks
Jason

the thing hangin off them are called egg sacks or yolk sacks aros have these when they are first born. the fish feed off this and is absorbed. keeping aros this young is not recomended the fish is very delicate at this stage and sometimes it's hard to get the fish to start eating resulting in death

Is $22 a good price for these fish??

:iagree:

also it's a ripoff, an aro like that should cost around $7-10

EDIT: ah you posted before me, $22 for both isn't bad but for one it's bad

I once bought an arowana which was 1 1/2" long (it still had it's egg sack....)
It died within a week....
I would recommend you to buy an arowana which is @ least 4" long.....

thanks for the input. It was the first time I have seen aro in any lfs around here, actualy its the first time I think I have ever seen one in person. I think they are cool fish but I dont think I can keep them in a 55gal .

Thanks
Jason

you would be wasteing your money buying one with a yolk sack, it will most likly die, and no... you CANT keep an arrow in a 55. not for more then a few months anyway.

there is a high chance of mortality because its still young especially if the travel between your house and lfs is way far, this causes too much stress, better buy aro with no sacs
