Think it would be possible to keep a wasp hive indoors? Like in a large vivarium/terrarium/formicarium or aquarium? They dont feed entirely on nectar so im guessing they wouldnt need to get out and in for plants etc, Just an idea!

XD

Well, besides being a very dangerous idea if you happen to be allergic to their stings (or even if you're not), I don't see why not if you choose to keep social wasps such as the common wasp a.k.a. yellowjacket.

You would have to provide them with food for their young in the form of caterpillars and other insects, and the adults would need nectar and/or sweet fruit but sugar water or hummingbird food should be an acceptable (and cheaper) replacement. Oh, and you'd need to have the queen for sure in order to keep the colony going.

Im pretty sure I could get a queen from a hive I find or just pick up the whole thing. Would need a way of getting food in without them swarming out, or just do it fast as possible when none of them where looking. I found a few videos on youtube of people keeping them, seemed pretty damn cool.
Im going between keeping ants or trying this wasp thing out after ive gathered a bit more info

At the county fair. A bee keeper brings in a honey hive full of bees. he runs a pvc tube from the hive outside the exhibit building. and the bees come and go and colect pollen exc and make honey in the hive during the county fair. I dont see why this wouldnt work for wasps.

I wouldnt like the wasps going in and out of my home, Im looking at wasps instead of bee's because bee's would NEED outside to get nectar etc, wasps dont XD
