Ok I was looking through an old book and in 2 different sections(other american species and other Asian species) it showed what looked to be the same fish. In the Asian section it showed a Dragon fish(Scleropages formosus) and in the other section it showed an Arawana(Osteoglossum bicirrhosum). What puzzled me was I thought Arawana was spelled Arowana and I thought another common name for it was Dragon fish.

Are these 2 seperate species or is the book wrong and what is the difference between the 2 if the are different???

yes, american species, african species, asian species and australian species are all distinct. there are even distinct varieties of all these, all arowanas, all bonytongues but only asians are usually called dragonfishes
