Yeah, I know everyone posts these and really I've got nothing special to show, just a little silver aro, but he's my first so I'm excited.

I always wanted a black aro, but when I saw him all beautiful colored at the fish store, I couldn't help but bring him home. Plus the 8" black I was staring at for weeks had "paid in full" written on the tank.

that's a nice little aro - hope you enjoy growing him into a monster!

what kind of setup / mates do you have?

Congrads on your aro! I'm excited for you! :) Aro's are awesome and your gonna see this little one grow quick! Keep us updated on your silver's progress!

Right now he's in a 55 with a common plec. The guy at the fish store said fewer tankmates when he's young to keep him looking up. I don't have his final tank yet, I'm waiting for a 500g to show up cheap on craigslist. But once that happens, he'll have some less aggressive SA cichlids, and a pbass or two for tankmates.

He can move up to a 120g, but I think he'll be fine in the 55 for a bit. However, he's eating aro sticks like a champ, so I can't wait too long.

If it is your first Aro, you will be amazed at how fast they grow. 1.5"-2" per month is no exaggeration.

mine has been at 3" a month...no joke, 3" in march now 19"...i love little aros...and big ones... nice pick up...are you going to try and put them together?

yea my little guy on aro sticks was doing atleast 3" a month... nice silver...

He's eating aro sticks like a champ. The LFS said they were feeding him crickets and krill. I split a couple of aro sticks in half, tossed them in along with some krill. He went right for the sticks and never touched the krill. I will try to get him eating a variety of stuff in time, but I figure its good that he learns what his staple will be. I'd say he's eating upwards of 10 sticks a day now, maybe more. I'm trying not to stuff him, but want him to start growing.

If this goes well, I'll probably try my hand with a black when they come back in season. I remember in the Spring it seemed like they were everywhere with all the vendors. Hopefully the same will happen this year. We'll see what happens though, I know they say you need 3 to split up aggression so I'll need to do some more reading. I think it'd be sweet to have a group of them though.

There's a 450g on craigslist right now that is 8' long x 2.5' wide x 3' tall for $1000 and it comes with filters, stand, and everything else. I'd take it in a heartbeat if it was 2.5' tall and 3' wide.
