The Greater Chicago Cichlid Assn puts on the Cichlid Classic every Memorial Day weekend that ends in an auction on on Sunday. I got there late today, but saw new world cichlid bags of motaguense, haitiensus, pearsei to angelfish, etc etc
Old world cichlids from each of the rift lakes, Tropheus, shell dwellers, Victorians to Tilapines
I picked up 2 pairs of Archcentrus sajica adults for $11, and 8 juvie nicaraguense for the same price, and I was only there an hour. Always a great time.

When I was there it was great for buyers, bad for sellers, for example bags of istlantum, Bartoni, pearsei, motaguense, wild group of adult Cyanoguttatus, all less then $10 a bag.....the most expensive bags were Africans...

I go to the auction every year with certain target species in mind, sometimes they are up for auction, sometimes not.
This year "none" on my list came up, but I try to be open to something I haven't worked with before, and with the many thousands of existing cichlid species out there, it's sure not a problem.
I feel lucky, all the rift lake species went for 5 times the price of my new world preferences. Some bags of 1 male peacock went for $40, groups of Tropheues around $40 or $50, while most new worlds went for $10 or under. A bag of half dozen haitiensus went for under $10, as did a bag of pearsei, and motagensus.

Its the same way over here. NW fish go for cheap. OW are outrageous. Guess I picked the right side of the hobby for someone as cheap as myself to get into.

That's great, I just had to spend some cash to get some motas shipped to me because the lfs I visit near me couldn't get them in for me and I got tired of waiting been waiting 4 months checking all 3 my local fish stores weekly no motas anywhere around me so I ordered 5 going to grow out hopefully spawn and fix that problem for anyone else looking for them around me :)
