Isla Taboga Panama via Milwaukee
spent the afternoon at the gcca classic auction.
For Central American people there were some amazing deals
Full grown A citrinellus for less than $10
many sub adult Paratheraps coatzacoalcos
Many of the new convict complex, siquia, sajica, etc
and a Parachromis loisellei barely able to fit in a bucket
tons of angels
for African people, all the lakes were represented
Lemon yellows < a buck, S fryeri, Tropheus, Metriaclima, Aulonacara
I picked up a bag of 10 Crencichla belly crawlers for $5

An Acarichthys heckelli

and a bag of Ctenochromis horei

 
Amatitlania siquia rio canyo (if I remember right)was one, there were others with collection point names too. I believe Sam Borstein brought in a number of variations from Costa Rica.
The new names brought in a bit of auction/confusion humor.
I probably should have picked up more than I did, because I came in late, things were going for a buck or 2 that should have been much higher.
I've heard about the horei aggression, but always wanted to try them, so getting 5 for $10 was too tempting to pass up.
They were almost giving away bags of trimacs, I believe there were bags of 8-10 going for a buck.
And bags of 6 Tropheus were going for $20.
I also met"sawboy" for the first time yesterday, which was interesting, as normally one doesn't get to associate faces with names here in the blogisphere.
 
Very nice bellycrawler, are these the wc ones from the classifieds? I really wanted to go this year but I'm overstocked at the moment and didn't want to deal with the temptations.
 
Lots of temptation.
The belly crawlers appear to be fry from one of the members spawns.
There was a bag with a mated pair, but I only had room for fry, I've got them in with my young ornatum.
Woofy, the Amphilophus were amazing specimens, I watched one guy buying up most of them.
 
The horei are definitely worth keeping - great pick up!

The Rio Cubayo "cons" are great fish - the males are yellow when not breeding and orange when breeding. Females are yellow with red bellies and black when breeding. Males get to like 6-7" as well! Very aggressive, though. I breed them divided...

They're the only Costa Rican cons in the hobby, unless Sam brought some new ones back...

Yes cubayo sounds right.
I know Sam has spent quite a bit of time in Costa Rica lately, so he may have some new gems.
Many of the new names were a bit foreign to the auctioneers, that, and a failing microphone/PA system made hearing clearly a chore.
I was waiting and hoping to find some Barumbi mbo or Madagascan cichlid species, or for some Central American Theraps, but none came up. I had also heard Etroplus canarensis might be there, but no such luck
 
Duane, very nice looking pikes. And I might need to try horei down the road - look great.

I was lucky enough to work with the wild pair of those cons. Yes, those are from Sam. There is a profile of them on the GCCA site.

I just pulled some baby Stomatepia mariae... and have some wild-type "orange" chromides (not breeding yet)...
