just bought 350 magnum

okay right now i have a 180 gallon tank. i built a wet/dry which handles around 700gph and there is a marineland emperor 400 on it right now. there is a rather large bio load on the tank, but i know the sump and bio wheels can handle that, i really need something to help keep the water looking cleaner. i do a 25-35% water change every 2 weeks and vaccuum the crap on the sand. anyway i wanted to know if adding this magnum 350 will help keep the water looking cleaner, and also how i should set it up i keep reading different ways to set it up and i'm kind of confused on how that goes.

If it's clear water you want, the magnum 350 will get the job done. Just run the micron cartridge and forget about the carbon media container. When I had my magnum 350 I would change the micron cartridge every two weeks, it's always good to carry a couple micron cartridges. I had 3, while one is being used another is being cleaned and the third is ready to go. Setup is easy just follow the directions, it's pretty straight forward. Which part of the setup is confusing you?

not so much the physical setup as how to set it up. just like how everyone sets them up as in what media they use etc. thanks though i figured the micron filter would be the best bet

Micron cartridge for pure mech/water polishing. The carbon media container is the more flexible one, you can fill with what ever. The only problem is you can only put in so little, as much that can fit the carbon container. I would fill with ceramic rings and just throw on those blue filter sleeves that wraps around the container if im in need of more biological filtration. If I'm lazy to run the micron cartridge because I have to clean it in two weeks I would just fill the carbon container with something mechanical like filter floss or sponge. But it doesn't make your water shine as much like the micron does in my experience.
