whoa..... you jumped into this a little fast. if you can take him back to the lfs till your ready man. if thats not an option look up as much info online as you can and go from there
you need a good staple pellet like cichlid gold or nls and maybe some freeze dried krill for now will do. just try to mix it up alot and feed him at least 2 times a day till he starts getting closer to 6-7 inches+
good luck and next time maybe ask questions before you buy a fish please

At this size (3'') try to feed the little guy a vary of food. Bio gold is good, market shrimp, chopped mussels, veggie pellets, peas, and so on and so forth. Mix it up. Oscars are really not that picky eaters.

P.S. your user name is gangstar.

Feed him a mixture of floating pellets, I started out with the md size hikari gold pellets for my oscar, now he eats the large floating type. I also feed him frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, even frozen shrimp. Avoid feeder fish from the pet store, its cool to watch em get eaten, but they have no nutritional value and they can cause your O to get parasites. I lost 2 small baby O's to lfs feeders, they had a long white thread like parasite coming out of there rectums. The O will beg every time he sees you but avoid over feeding him. I give mine a day of fasting about very week. They def grow fast. btw what type do you have.? I have raised red, tiger and albino. My red is now 10 I had a footlong tiger. Gave him up for adoption to a larger tank. Also get a pleco to eat up the scraps and upgrade filtration because they are the messiest fish ever.

GL raising him

yea he likes the gold pellets just got some gave him a couple like they said to n hes in a 65 g tank with two whisper 310 filters and 3 spotted plecos so he has plenty of space now working on building my 200 g just need to make a stand then it will be done and hes a red oscar
