I am mainly a fishkeeper but I found out about someone who was rehoming an adult bearded dragon with enclosure and all accessories for free. I went to pick him up, and the woman asked if I would like a russian tortoise with enclosure and accessories as well. Well, I couldn't refuse. Now I have these two critters.
The house was very cold where they were being kept and the woman said since they were in the process of moving out, they haven't had heat. They are both lethargic, but hopefully they will recover.
The dragon was in a 30 gallon tall, I have since moved him into a spare 40 breeder. He has a 100 watt basking light and a flourescent strip light.
The Tortoise was in a large plastic-bottom wire-cage with no substrate. I have added a basking area with a 100 watt basking light and a 100 watt "daylight blue" reptile bulb on one side of the cage, and a moist layer of bed-a-beast substrate with a log hide on the other side.
I plan to run NO LIGHTS OR HEAT for 12 hours at night. Since these animals both come from places where it can get cold at night. My bedroom actually stays pretty damn warm, so I don't think that will be an issue.
I plan on feeding fruits and veggies and am planning to breed dubia roaches to feed to the dragon.
Anything I'm doing wrong or should improve on? I plan to upgrade the bearded to a 75 gallon as soon as possible.
