I DON"T WANT ONE. I just have a question.
Does anyone here who keeps crocodilians of any kind live in colder climates? If so how do you manage to keep them year round? Do you winter them in the basement? have a whole house devoted to them? board them at some secret underground reptile vacation facility?
I'm just curious how you guys manage to do it. Or if there's anyone on here who lives in temperate climates that keeps those large reptilians.

I keep a tortoise, but only a hermanns and Im in the UK so I don't think you'd be too interested in my story lol.

I live in Florida ,Miami but the winter is cold for a week at time or so so I built a stable for him and I have friend in WI (where I am from and they do keep them in the basement I have plans for enclosure from some one who has a cayman if you want it let me no know I will send to you the most important thing is to have clean water (warm) 75 -80 and a full length basking area and if you can make sure that enclosure is not rough concrete a smooth mosaic or larger ceramic tile but you have to seal your rafters under floor of your house case the humidity can cause some problems (sheet rock the ceilings (green water resistant sheet rock)

Well in UK climates, large torts are often done with outdoor areas and sheds (which would be big enough to keep them in over winter also). Large monitors and many crocodilians are just kept inside... like you said maybe a room or garage conversion. These animals are serious business and people who want to keep them do everything they can to do it.

Well I live in pennsylvania its gets cold here, I have four torts. 2 red foots and 2 yellow foots. I keep them in my basement, They have an 15' x 25' enclosure. Most of the year they are in there, for the late spring and summer till early fall they are outside during the day and sleep in the enclosure at night. Outside, they have about a half acre of fenced in land, With 5 basenji guards watching over them. I know redfoots and yellows arnt that big for torts, but it gives you an idea of what people in cold places do with their herps.

Hi, i own 2 hermanns tortoises which only get to 8 inches, but like all tortoises that are wintered indoors.
Some get hibernated others dont, those who dont have a permanant indoor enclosure, never let a tortoise roam the house.
Carpets, and other floorings and furniture can cause problems for a tortoise specially if a baby.
