Just emptied tank and found a gash

I don't think I would risk it, especially if it is inside your house. The damage even 5-10 gallons of water could cause to your floors is not worth it. If you are in a bind you can use a large plastic tote for a temporary tank.

That's not a gash, that's a crack. And I wouldn't use it at all. At best you risk the crack leaking. At worst the pressure causes the crack to extend over time until the pane breaks and dumps the entire tank in about 5 seconds.

If this were a largish tank (100 gallons plus (maybe even a 50 or 75 gal if I had some glass laying around) if it were me, I'd silicone a pane of glass (larger than the crack) on the outside and another inside of the tank.
But if the tank it small, I would just dismantle it and save the glass.
Below is how I fixed a 6ft tank in the same manner.

the pane of glass should be large enough to extend at least as far the crack may creep when water pressure is added.
In my case buying two thick panes, and sealent ran @$100.
So unless the tank far outweighs the repair cost, it may "not" be worth the time spent running around, and cost.

Hello; I have "patched" tanks much as Duanes did. It is a crap shoot but can work out fine. I would only use such tank in a basement or garage for a long time. A place where a leak or failure wont do damage.

Ideally you'd probably also want to drill a small divot at the end of the crack to stop it from spreading. But putting panes on both sides of it probably would take most of the pressure off it that would cause the crack to spread anyway.

The above mentioned ideas will work.
If it's just a grow out or quarantine tank that nobody will see but yourself then I would go the easy route.
But, If it was my tank and I was using it as a display. I would take it apart and replace the pane completely.
It's a little bit of work but in the end it's worth it.

Is in my basement tanks explode there we have cement floor w a train so all it does is wash the floor I filled it half way the thing is the crack is in the glass not touchable so half full okay? Even if it busts I won’t put expensive fish

if in a basement I would not be to concern if it breaks anywhere else in the house that could not end well. Been there not worth the damage water causes
