Hi guys im new to this for i just got a bad ass 230 gal tank with hood, lights, canister filter, uv sterilizer and some other non important s**t. It was running slat water and i was thinking of doing that but i am not familiar with slat water and i have had many fresh water tanks in the past just never one this big. I LOVE OSCARS!! i would just like some in put on what you would do salt water or freshwater. Also what kind of fish would you do if i did freshwater and could i put live plants in there with oscar type fish i have herd mixed things about plants?

A planted SA/CA Cichlid tank would look sweet, I'm thinking of doing the same for a 120 I just picked up. If you choose the right plants you shouldn't have a problem with the O's digging them up.

230g? Add some arowanas and some clown knives along with your oscars. Id make it a planted tank too. You should only put in the fish with the same temperment as the oscar. Pacus would be good also.

I disagree,

Pacu aren't good, since they can potentially get around 3 feet long. (or more) A CK can grow to about the same size.
A silver arowana will definitely outgrow that tank, as they can get about 4 feet long.

What are the dimensions of your aquarium?

If you like oscars, then other cichlids or large fish that aren't really mean will work best. Larger species of bichirs (Polypterus) are good. If you get any, make sure they aren't much smaller than the oscars, or the might get eaten. They look a lot like worms when they are smaller. The smallest ones get about a foot or so, and others can get much larger than that.

Datnoids would be awesome as well.

yes they have the potential, but whos saying they are going to? And im not siggesting silver aros specifically. Even those never get to 4 feet long, if so hardly. Yes the CKs can get around 2.5 feet, but most likely they can fit into this guys aquarium. Bichirs, especially with oscars get picked on all of the time. I have a CK and a red aro in my 180gallon tank and they do just fine with room. the CK is about 28 inches and that is ablut the max size he will grow to. Lets find out what the measurments of the tank are before making sound decisions?

get a buttifkoi it's the new oscar!!! and geo's and earth eatter.

sorry for the double post, but pacus almost never hit three feet if at all.

Buttikoferi aren't nice. Geos would probably be killed.
