hi all i just got a 55 gal i got it setup and running already but im still debating on wat i can keep together in there i just wanted to double check it is safe to mix some cichlids with semi aggressive as i n bala sharks gouramis and fiah in the catergory with something like a flowerhorn or texaz cichlid .

one more thing cuz if mixing isnt a good idea which shoould i lean towards more or in other words in your opinon wats better or more interesting cichlids or semi aggresive???

i think if you want a community tank type tank you should go for the semi aggressives, cause cichlids tend to grow huge and a 55 would only hold so much..
but for me... i'd go cichlids, but for me primarily flowerhorns =)
goodluck with your decision

A Flowerhorn will get too big for a 55. A Texas will probably be ok. Bala Sharks will get too big, and Gouramis will get beat up by the Texas. A solo Texas will be fine.

I strongly think you should lean more toward placing cichlids in the tank. There's a big misconception about Cichlids being overly aggressive as long as you keep stick to similar species or at least similar size you could set up a very impressive tank. I would do Central Americans such as A Tri-Color Cichlid aka Salvini, A Black Belt aka Synspillum stay smaller with just Rainbow Cichlids aka Multispinosa , or Firemouth Cichlids aka Meeki.
