hey guys, i just got a baby RTC about 3 inches long. i know a little bit about them. but i was just seeing if anyone had any tips on keeping them or anything like. just tying to get some more info on him. any advice is appreciated. thanks, Matt

RTCs are amazing. theyll pretty much eat anything you give them. got min back in january at 1.5" now hes just a tad over 7'' haha. be ready for him to grow fast. And be ready to upgrade his tank size ALOT haha. no joke. well good luck with your new RTC.

It better be by far the smallest fish in your tank or else there will be problems I had a 5" one eat 2 4" bichirs. Anything that lives on the bottom will be in trouble at night. They look great small but they have a wicked Appetite. I saw some 3' RTC at the SF acadmey of science an thats when I new it wasnt for me. So be care full and good luck

get ready to upgrade soon and have places for him to hide and its a must he is the smallest in the tank like others have said here or your gonna have missing tank mates and just cause he can eat and eat doesint matter dont over feed they can and will eat them selfs to death. and make sure you have good water. there more picky than tiger shovelnoses and most other cats (tig) not include in that tho.. there another ball game. there big babys and there very smart they will learn who feeds them and very often beg for food.but good luck i think ive coverd most of it.any other questions just ask anyone on the cat fourm.

all i have to say is don't keep him with fish that are smaller then him even if they are only 1/2 an inch smaller. trust me i found out the hard way. also make sure he has a good sized enclosure and eventually you'll need a HUGE tank or pond. and do water changes frequently cause RTCs are swimming stomachs and take dumps often. and feed them twice a day food items such as tilapia fillet, beefheart, bloodworms, and silver sides. other than that enjoy your new RTC they will live a long time. i love mine even though he is disappointing sometimes.:)

well right now i have him in a 20 long untill hes big enough to go in with my aligator gar and and senegal. there in a 40 breeder. but i should have a 75 gallon before hes big enough to go with the other fish.

Here's the link from the top in regards to tank size. Have always been jealous of people who can have ponds (I rent, therefore I can't). How big of a pond are you building for your baby RTC?

75g would not be much of an upgrade. they wont have much more room than in the 40b. I would build a pond or a diy tank if you are looking to save money. ponds are by far the cheapest. 8x4x3 is the BARE minimum in my opinion. sorry if its not what you want to hear, just good advice.

as far as the actual cat goes. they are really fun fish. at that size i would be feeding bits of tilapia stuffed with NLS or hikari, and brine shrimp.
