It is a 60 gallon tank

Jack Dempsey cichlids will spend most of the time hiding, especially when they are small and have claimed a cave or other territory. They're listed as aggressive or semi-aggressive but I've never had any problems with aggression. I would keep other CA cichlids with it. Don't get anything too aggressive such as a jag or dovii. I keep mine (6")with a black convict(4"), a firemouth(~3"), and a 13" L-083. The only aggression I see is when the other fish enter his territory, but he doesn't mess with the pleco. Keep him happy and his colors will be good.

with a 60g you do not want another pair in the tank, you will see the female more than the male but will not see either very much, again 2 JD in a 60g tank is stocked. no room for more fish.
