I filled my tank to half cleaned it all and ready to put the filter on before i fill it the rest of the way and turn it on. I need someone who had one of these filters, because i cannot get the filter cartridge into the grey media container and get it closed. The only think i can think of is that it doesnt clip closed when a cartridge is in it and it just slides into its spot.

You just put the blue filter in the slots provided. The containers that open you would put carbon or whatever you want. I just put some filter floss in mine. I can't believe you tried to put the blue cartridge in the grey container. lol
dont feel bad, when first got an emp 400 i couldnt get my bio wheels to turn. I didnt know you could rotate the spraybars.

I don't use the blue media cartridge. I just fill the cartridge with filter floss for mechanical filtration and bio wheels for bio bacteria. Here is a diagram if you need help taking it apart for cleaning. This is a very good filter and will last almost forever. LOL. I don't blame anyone for doing these things. I just use filter floss in the media containers, also. Buying the Marineland filter cartridges is a ripoff.
