Hi my names Brian and I'm new to this so bear with me here.I just bought an 8 inch red tail payara and he shows no intrest in eating yet.H e will chase them and even posture up on them just wont eat them.I figure this is normal since he is alone till i get the money to buy another one.At what point do i get concerned if it dont eat?? thanks

As long as you have live feeder fish in the tank and there is no aggression from any other fish and the tank is fully cycled. Then there are no worries.

I have had them eat after 1hr out of the bag. And i had one that went 2 months with out eating.

but as long as the tank is good and there is food availiable then it will eat eventually.

Good for you for finding a Tat,they are pretty hard to come by lately.Where did you get it from?

I agree!

they can go quite some time wo food. my armatus was on hunger strike for 8 weeks when I convert to frozen shrimp. gave a single feeder 1 x a week.

Thanks guys I feel a little better.I got them a place near pittsburgh. They had 4 and i grabbed 2 for $60 each.Tonight I did a 50% water change and got some new feeders.I got some rosy reds and there already chasing them around.gonne turn out all the lights and hope they eat tonight. So should I just leave the feeders in untill something happens or take em back out if nothing happens over night.

I would leave the rosies in the tank and let them eat the fish as they get settled in and hungry enough to do so.Try to get at least one more as they do best in groups and just the two of them may start to fight after they get comfortable.

I would love to get one more, but I am waiting to see iff they eat thats all.Would suck to have nearly 300 dollars in fish starve to death.I suck at this.LOL
