Really depends on the Pleco. What Kind do you have? Most plecos grow slow though.

Plecos don't grow that slow. Commons grow extremely fast. Given good conditions, and proper diet, 6" could be hit in 3 months to 18 months. There is a dietary thread for plecos at the top of the page.

Yup, it depends on exactly what species you have and how well it's fed etc.

Would guess 6-12 months in the average fish tank.

They will eat most veges, so see what you have in the fridge or freezer. The peas good, lettuce will provide some roughage, which is important for them, but isn't very nutrious. They will eat shimp pellets and other meaty food as well, just make sure vege based food is most of their diet.

Cheers

Veggies as the primary food will only work for some species. Knowing the species will help a lot. As plecos grow, their dietary needs can change. Pterygoplichthys pardalis for instance needs quite a bit of protein as and adult, but as a juvenile, they primarily stick to vegetation.
