Hey guys.

I just got my ornate and Armored Bichir from Toyin from Reboth. Awesome fish. They are about 6-8 inches and in a 20 gal. I know its small but its only for about 3 more weeks untill i set up the 125. Anyways any tips on getting them to eat during the day? My senegal will eat whenver there is food, but these guys seem a little shy. I put some frozen SliverSides in the tank, they smelled them and moved on,no intrest at all. Then i bought a dozen roise-reds and put them in their tank. It didnt seem like they were intrested atf all but when i woke up the next morning all of the feeders were gone. Just wondering how to get them to eat infront of me.. Thanks. Will get pics soon.

turn off the light and give them time. a 20 gal is waaaaaaay small so do lots of water changes. gl with the new fish too

I know the tank is small, i will have them in a 125 in less than 3 weeks. I've them for about 7 days and changed the water twice. about 15 percent changes.

What you can also do is give them hiding places and place food infront them. I feed mine market prawns, lancefish and mealworms. With yours at that size feed them live bloodworms they should love that

First off relax and let them settle for a few days they have been thru a lot.Next Ornates tend to be among the most nocturnal of the bichirs I never saw my ornate eat for the first six months I had her. After they have had time to settle some place pellets or dead items in the tank during normal daylight times when they get hungry they will eat -Anne

Congratulations!! I too have a Delhezi and an Ornate Bichir. The del comes out at feeding time and goes right to the top and grabs pellets, the little fatty!!! But other than that I dont see him much during the day... Mostly at night..

The ornate comes out alot to swim during the day but I've yet to see him eat. He is growing though and not dead yet so I know hes eating something!!!

Good luck with your new Bichirs!! :D

I have been watching the two new guys and they seem to like each other. I'd say about 80 percent of the time they are either resting on eachother or next to eachother. Any ever seen their bichirs be so friendly?
