I tried feeding chichlid sticks to my 6-7" silver arowana that I just got yesterday and he is not interested at all. So I then bought some red wigglers...worms from my local fish bait store...and I think he ate one of them. But I am not sure what the best way to feed Worms to him is. I tried feeding him some more, one at a time, hanging from a hook I rigged up at the top of the water. I believe he has eaten a couple of small guppies...I left a few guppies and about a dozen juvenille swordtails in the tank for him to steadily eat. Is this OK? or should I keep the swords separated and add one or two at a time for the Aro to eat. As is they have plenty of places to hide in my tank. I read that this could force the Aro to look down down too much and get the dreaded droopy eye. Just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Any advice...I'm planning on picking up some crickets tonight and feeding them some carrots. Hopefully these will be readily eaten by my new Monster.

The Aro was just shipped from Atl, to Milledgville (two hour transport), then I picked him up from the lfs early in the morning, still in the bag from the hatchery. Could his loss of appetite be based upon the stress he has just endured to get down here to me? Remember...he left Atl just yesterday morning and entered my tank at about 11:00 a.m. in the morning...very new.

Thanks Keepers

OK...So I just talked to my lfs guy and had him to ask the hatchery what they fed him. He said they fed my Aro ghost shrimp and rosy reds. I want to get my Aro used to sticks, but I have not seen him eat any of them that I place in the tank. I've been told that it takes them awile to get used to this form of food.
My questions are...should I buy some rosy reds to feed him for now, since he doesn't seem interested in the sticks (and should i throw in like 15 feeders into the tank or should I put a couple in at feeding time?)...and should I just toss in a few stick a couple times a day until he hopefully gets used to them? I know it is bad to just let food stay floating in the tank, but if I only throw a few in my plecos and loaches have been coming to the top of the tank to clean up after ten minutes or so of the food being introduced...along with the young swordtails.

Your new aro may take a few days to adjust to the new tank. Don't get too excited about the aro not eating as it could take a few days. Your best bet is to only offer a quality pellet or food stick. While it may accept other "live" type foods quicker, it will be harder to break it off these and onto pellets. Once you have it established eating pellets you can then expand it's diet to other items.

It will take alot of patience to change its diet from ghost shrimp and rosy reds to pellets. The only way is to starve it and throw in a few pellets every now and then. Remember to net the pellets out if it doesn't eat them. When its really hungry, it will eat the pellet. Cruel, but its the only way. Definitely need alot of patience. Good luck! :)

DON'T feed any liver feeders. High risk of disease. Fishes can go months without eating so don't panic. Frozen foods are the way to go. Sticks won't do much.
try to leave the light on and then feed it at night. if you are by the tank and it goes away from you then it won't eat. but if it comes right up to you then..it will eat.

Thanks guys...yeah. I think I'm gonna haveto be a dick to him to get him on the sticks. I figure I'll throw him like a piece of shrimp every week, but other than that just try the sticks...I'll try the night feeding as well...that makes sense.

forget about the shrimp. Just starve him until he'll take pellets. No need to show mercy with the shrimp.

Ok...I guess I just needed to hear that directly. Would brine shrimp be an acceptable meal for him? For later on once I get him on the sticks. I have a good amount of eggs...so figured he would enjoy them. But for now...he gets sticks.

brine shrimp probably too small for your aro.
