so i just got 2 6 inch redhooks from my lfs anyoned have any advice ive had them for three days there in with a festivum and a red spotted severum they dont seem to want to eat what should i feed them and they seem to be brutes in the tank lol

Ive got a 5x2' tank with a good number of different species of metynnis and myleus all a good size (smallest 4, biggest 10"). Including some redhooks. they are very nervous fish, dont like too agressive company, ideally they need to have a few others in there whether they be more redhooks, silverdollars, schromburgki etc... Once they have settled though they should eat fine, like foods like pellets, flake, spirulina, forzen foods, mussle, cockle, lettue etc...

mine have always love sinking algea wafers, they will literally jump partially out of the water to get them

I'm still itching to set up another dollar tank

well today i got them to eat some frozen krill and frozen bloodworms so im happy there eating atleast and the store i got them from had 6 of them i only got 2 tho because i only have a 75 gallon with some smaller fish under 4 inches a festivium and a red spotted gold sev and a thin bar dat i would love to have more if i had the room

My red hooks (I have 5 that are about 3"-4") eat any and everything. Never had a problem feeding them...

They really love Ken's brand Spirulina Wafers. I also feed them: tetramin flakes, tetra algae crisps, crushed cichlid gold pellets (had these leftover from my jaguar cichlid), shrimp pellets, freeze-dried blood worms/brine shrimp, massivore, hikari sinking carnivore...etc.

I feed my plecos mostly zuchini and market shrimp, both of which the red hooks have taken a liking to.

I try not to feed them too much protein, but I kind of have to, to make sure my carnivorous plecos are getting their share.

If you want more but don't have room for red hooks, you could maybe get a couple common silver dollars. They don't get as large as red hooks, but they will still all school together. When I get home I'll upload and post a short little video of my red hooks / common SDs hanging out in the current.
