just bought this with a 75 gal tank brand new never used the light was new outa the box with skimmer wet/dry and everything for $400 :headbang2thank you craigslist!!
anyways just wondering how i should keep it suspended theres no clips to hang it from the ceiling or anything so i thought maybe i should hold it up with shelving brackets on each end about 12 inches off the surface?? maybe any suggestions? i kind of wanted to corner the tank but i really cant because of this light

get a nice sized corner hanging shelf. anchor that thing in, give a little extra support and hang the light down from the bottom of the shelf. then get something to fill the top of the shelf with that will look nice. where there is a will there is a way

not sure i have never had hanging lights only the strip lights that sit on the glass. but i would say somewhere from 6-10 inches above the water. thats a guestimate from what i see the pet stores i go to with their display tanks and the lighting that comes with the arms you attach to the aquarium. theres an idea too. see if you can look up on the internet if they sell arms for your type of lights somewhere. maybe even DIY arms mounted to the lights. just hopefully theres a way without actually drilling into the housing of the lights and making it look like it came that way

now that i think about it 10 inches above the water seems kind of high off there. maybe someone else can shed some light on this? but i would like to change my answer from 6-10 to 4-7? haha

I read in my new aquarium fish international magazine that metal halides should be about a foot above the aquarium or be sure to have cooling fans and great ventilation.(It just came a few days ago.)
