just joined fx5 club

be gentle with the orange nobs that hold the lid down.. there's these little orange cylinders under the lid, that hold a screw, that's attached to the nobs. that orange cylinder is weak!!

the FX5 fine polishing pads clog real quick. waste of money IMO. (they do not come with the filter)

don't let girlfriends near it...

I am running 3 fx-5 2 on my 265 1 on my 120 I use the foam pads that come with pack the bottom layer with ceramic noodles then the next 2 trays with Eheim Pro Substrate for bio only have to clean them every 6 to 8 months

My boyfriend and I used to have an FX5 on the 180, it cleaned up some of the worst messes. By far, the best filtration we've ever had!

The wires on it shortlined so it is no longer with us and I was sad to see it go! Though, we did buy it used and cheap at the LFS so.. can't complain much! Just be sure to use a twist tie (a fairly big one) or something to keep the cord from getting bunched up or tangled.

Happy FX5'ing... I'm envious! :D

good advice and welcome to MFK

i suggest siphorax biomedia on all 3 trays..
be gentle with the flow control nobs..
do not cut hosing to short

Don't over tighten the lid. I secure mine down going in a star type pattern from nob to nob. Just snug it down nicely, don't over tighten.

Avoid the Fluval fine filtering pads. I use pads I got from www.SwissTropicals.com . Buy in bulk and cut to fit. They work awesomely and don't seem to clog filters up in 2 weeks ;P
Other than that, enjoy. FX5 is an awesome filter when set up properly.

+1, about a week ago I was setting up my fx5 when I cut the intake hose a little to short for my liking. Therefore, I had to put a few books under the fx5 to give me the length I needed.

BTW I filled all 3 of my trays with fluval biomax

Enjoy the filter, they are beasts.
