RIP Vaater Orlaag, you had been the biggest but kindest fish of the bunch. You never once picked on other fish. we'll miss your overwhelming presence in the tank.

sorry to mislead you, Pharoh, it was sort of a rhetoracle question. However, other weird happenings have been taking place lately. Two of my males, completely different species, had one swollen eye on the same side, by chance, they've since subsided now for about four days 'till I just took a look and found one of them with the Other eye swollen. ?? I'm not gonna get too excited. I'll do a few perameter tests tomorrow.
I think it's just aggression that caused too much stress for Vaater, so he just gave up... I looked down his gullet and didn't find any frye or food causing suffocation. His belly area was really soft and "void" of any pressure, but I have never held a live or lifeless fish in my hand like that before. There is a young male in the tank that has two circular 1/8" sores on the very end of his body just before his tail fin. again, I believe it to be aggression. I hadn't changed the aquascaping for quite awhile, which imo led them to establish territories.
It's all very suprising to me to say the least.... months and months of the same old same old and then BOOM!

NITRATES!!! they are seriously waaaaay too high. I'll be changing the water again today. I noticed Clyde swimmin irregularly yesterday.

The best way is water changes, and then identify how they got so high. Overstocked? Over feeding? Not enough filtration?
If your regular water changes aren't cutting it. Increase the amount of water you change or increase the frequency at which you do your water changes.
As Mike said, cutting back on feeding will help as well.
